Why the policy was changed
We modified this policy as part of the cyclical national policy review process.
What changed
We updated this policy to include more precise language and additional details. We also made the following changes:
- We changed the title of the directive to reflect the application of this policy more accurately. The CD applies to Correctional Officers, Primary Workers, and Correctional Managers.
- We added details regarding the roles and responsibilities of the Assistant Commissioner, Correctional Operations and Programs.
- We added responsibilities of the Assistant Commissioner, Corporate Services, to reflect their role as the validator of site deployment levels and changes.
- We added responsibilities of the Executive Committee to reflect their role as the approver of site deployment levels through the resource allocation process.
- We added further details to the responsibility of the Director General, Security, to provide direction and support to regions and institutions regarding the deployment policy.
- We added additional details regarding the roles and responsibilities of the Institutional Head.
- Information on the application of the Deployment Standards, exceptions, Threat Risk Assessment, and Job Hazard Analysis is now included in the new Procedures section.
Annex A: Cross-References and Definitions
We reviewed and updated existing definitions, and new definitions have been added for the following terms: business case, Hazard Prevention Program, Job Hazard Analysis, Occupational Health and Safety Committee, Operational Adjustment Plan, and Threat Risk Assessment.
How it was developed
The Correctional Operations and Programs Sector developed this policy in collaboration with the Strategic Policy Division. Full consultations were undertaken with internal and external stakeholders, including the Inmate Committees.
Who is affected by the policy
All staff involved in the application of the Deployment Standards, as well as Correctional Officers, Primary Workers, and Correctional Managers.
