Commissioner's update for correctional employees: June 17, 2024
This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.
Our Mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.
I was inspired to see so many of you turn out at last week’s activities and events to help CSC celebrate National Public Service Week (NPSW).

It was nice to see so many activities taking place across the county. It is so important to take time to celebrate our accomplishments together and the amazing employees we have at CSC. Thanks to Luc Bisson, our NPSW Champion, and his team of volunteers for organizing the week’s many different events at NHQ as well as to staff across the country who organized events or found ways to help CSC employees feel even more valued and appreciated.
CSC NHQ Recognition Ceremony
It was also wonderful to see so many employees at the CSC NHQ Recognition Ceremony. Minister LeBlanc was on hand to help honour the award winners and to speak about the important public safety role that all CSC employees play. My thanks to everyone who attended or watched the ceremony online.
I was deeply honoured to receive the Corrections Exemplary Service Medal – Second Bar and 40-year Long Service Award. I remain proud as ever to lead this organization, and proud of what we accomplish together, as one team.
Congratulations to the many other award recipients!

This episode concludes the “Behind the Badge” mini-series, which highlights the important but challenging work our correctional officers do to create positive change in the lives of those in our institutions. This time, we provide an inside look at a minimum-security institution, as told through the lens of a Correctional Manager who has worked on the frontlines of CSC for 26 years.
Thank you again to all the staff who have taken the time out of their busy schedules to help make this mini-series possible.
