Commissioner's update for correctional employees: July 22, 2024
This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.
Our Mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.
This summer brings an opportunity to have your say on an important part of how we work. As you may be aware, we are implementing a new Offender Management System (OMS) that is more user-friendly, efficient, effective, and will introduce many new ways of working. This is a significant step forward in CSC’s goal of fulfilling its mandate by using modernized technology and practices.
CSC recently released its Audit of Organizational Culture, which provides important information on how our diverse CSC employees experience the workplace. The audit is clear that employees want to be engaged, consulted in decision-making, and supported by effective tools. The new OMS represents an important change to how we will work on a daily basis, so incorporating input from employees has been important at each stage of development. As we make steps towards launching the new system, we will continue reaching out to you along the way!
A contest will be held from July 22 to August 16 to choose a name for the new OMS. All CSC staff can vote on the name for the new OMS. This is a great opportunity for your region to claim the top spot for the highest participation rate. The list of potential names was developed in workshops consisting of CSC staff from all regions and positions. Now, it is time for you to have a say.
