Commissioner's update for correctional employees: December 23, 2024
This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.
Our mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.
Our core values: Respect, fairness, professionalism, inclusiveness, and accountability.
As you may have heard, a new Minister of Public Safety was appointed last Friday as part of a cabinet shuffle. The Honourable David J. McGuinty is now the new Minister of Public Safety. The Prime Minister also announced that Rachel Bendayan is Minister of Official Languages and Associate Minister of Public Safety. I look forward to working with them on our mandate, as we continue to keep our communities and institutions safe.
I also want to say a special thank you to our previous minister, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc. Minister LeBlanc has supported CSC on many priorities, including a major milestone on the Health Centre of Excellence project in Dorchester, New Brunswick, which he announced last Thursday. During his press conference, he was vocal in his recognition of CSC and its employees for the vital public safety role they play.
During his many visits to our institutions, he has shared how impressed he has been with your exceptional work, especially through challenging times.
On behalf of CSC, I thanked him Thursday and will now welcome Minister McGuinty and Associate Minister Bendayan to their new roles.
Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it. Autograph your work with excellence.
