Commissioner's update for correctional employees: May 26, 2025

Our mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

Our core values: Respect, fairness, professionalism, inclusiveness, and accountability.

Last week, I was pleased to attend a Change of Command ceremony at Donnacona Institution in the Quebec Region. The former warden, Dominique Dulac, officially passed the key of the institution to the new warden, Pierre-Luc Lauzon.

I also attended a Change of Command ceremony at Warkworth Institution in Ontario, where Henry Saulnier was officially welcomed as the new warden. Dave Dunk, the former warden, is happily retired after more than 30 years of service to CSC. I had the opportunity to thank Dave for his valuable contributions to CSC over the years.

Correctional Training Program graduations

Many new Correctional Officers in the Quebec and Pacific regions have recently graduated from the Correctional Training Program. Congratulations to all our new Officers! I’m excited to share these short videos of QUE03 and PAC03 to celebrate this milestone. Completing such a comprehensive training program is a major achievement, equipping you with the essential skills and knowledge for your new roles.

We look forward to working with you in service of Canadians!

A special thank you to all the trainers from the Centre for Learning Development across Canada who make this program possible, we proudly celebrate 567 graduates in 2024 to 2025!

Atlantic Federal Council’s Official Languages Awards of Excellence: The President’s Award

On May 12, Johanne Charest, Regional Deputy Commissioner (RDC) for the Atlantic Region and CSC’s National Official Languages Champion, was selected as the recipient of the President’s award for the Atlantic Federal Council’s Official Languages Awards of Excellence. This prestigious award recognizes her exceptional commitment to promoting both English and French in the workplace and across the Atlantic region.

As CSC’s National Official Languages Champion, Johanne reintroduced the Linguistic Adventure newsletter and fosters a comfortable environment that encourages people to speak and practice their second language.

Congratulations to Johanne on this well-deserved recognition. Her leadership and passion for official languages continues to inspire us all. Félicitations Johanne!

Digital Government Community Awards 2025

CSC was recognized earlier this month at the 2025 Digital Government Community Awards. The employees who worked on the Digital Education Project received the Excellence in Innovation award.

This award celebrates teams for outstanding achievement in fostering a culture of openness and experimentation to drive innovation. It’s a powerful reminder of the meaningful impact your work has.

I am thrilled to see so many CSC employees being recognized. Please join me in congratulating them and their team on this well-deserved honour.

Let’s Talk: CORCAN Wildfire Safety Program

Last year, CORCAN began offering a wildfire fighting training program in the Prairie Region, helping offenders build valuable skills to support their communities upon their release.

I am happy to announce that the five-day program is returning this year to train even more offenders in this important and rewarding work.

I encourage you to read the latest edition of Let’s Talk to learn more.

Thank you for your continued commitment and hard work.
