Commissioner's update for correctional employees: August 18, 2025
This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.
Our mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.
Our core values: Respect, fairness, professionalism, inclusiveness, and accountability.
As I mentioned last week, many parts of Canada, especially in the Atlantic region, have been significantly affected by wildfires. While recent rainfall and cooler temperatures have brought some relief and helped contain several fires, the situation remains serious, and evacuation orders are still in place in certain communities. I know that you and your loved ones may be impacted and may be facing personal challenges. I want to reiterate that my thoughts are with you.
Please stay safe. In moments like these, it is important to show solidarity and compassion. I also ask that managers show understanding and flexibility in light of these events.
As for our institutions, thankfully none have been impacted so far. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.
Public Service Pride Week
This week marks the beginning of Public Service Pride Week (PSPW). This year’s theme: “Together, We Create Change”, highlights the collective power of individuals and teams in advancing inclusivity and equity for 2SLGBTQI+ communities. To learn more about upcoming events, visit:
Upcoming Linguistic Duality Panel
Next month, CSC is hosting a bilingual panel discussion on official languages and the Official Languages Act. The discussion will be held virtually and will feature opening comments from our National Champion and Official Language Champions from NHQ and the Pacific, Prairies, Atlantic Regions.
The theme of the panel discussion is “Two Languages, One Vision: Embracing Inclusion, Respect and Diversity,” a way to celebrate Official Languages Day.
The virtual event will take place on September 9. Keep an eye open for the calendar invitation.
