This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.

Our mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

Our core values: Respect, fairness, professionalism, inclusiveness, and accountability.

Recognition event in the Ontario and Nunavut region

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a very special recognition event in the Ontario and Nunavut Region at Kingston Penitentiary. It was the first time in many years since we have had an event there and I was pleased to be part of it.

I was proud to present recognition awards to many employees who have worked at CSC for over 20 years. We also recognized six individuals who are receiving the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal. Congratulations to all the recipients!

Front-line friday corner: Maxime

Recently, I mentioned that Fridays will be dedicated on social media to highlighting the hard and important work our Correctional Officers and others do on our front line to keep Canadians safe. Last Friday, we met Maxime, a Correctional Officer at Cowansville Institution, who shares his perspective on the challenges and rewards of his role.

Maxime, thank you for your service and for sharing your story. You can meet other Correctional Officers and watch their videos in the link below:

Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Day

Next weekend, CSC staff across the country will come together to mark Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day. We will take time to honour those who have fallen in the line of duty and recognize the ongoing service of those who protect Canadians every day.

Starting today until sunset on Sunday, September 28, you may show your respect by wearing the Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Ribbon.

I will be attending the 48th National Memorial Service on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Join in by watching the live webcast on Sunday, September 28. We will read the names of fallen officers at 9 a.m. and the memorial service will begin at 11 a.m.

Our communications team will also be there to take photos and video of this important event. I will share an online album with all of you in the coming weeks. We will also share highlights on social media. Thank you for all that you do in service to Canadians.

Gender Equality Week

This week is Gender Equality Week, a time to highlight the progress made to advance gender equality, celebrate women’s achievements, and reaffirm our commitment to closing gender gaps.

I encourage you to participate in the panel discussion happening tomorrow. You will hear from the Director of Front-Line Planning and Recruitment as well as from front-line Correctional Managers and Officers. You can find more information in the calendar invitation sent last week.

Thank you for the work and efforts you put in everyday to make our institutions safe.
