Commissioner's update for correctional employees: September 29, 2025
This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.
Our mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.
Our core values: Respect, fairness, professionalism, inclusiveness, and accountability.
Yesterday, I had the honor of attending the 48th annual Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Service on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, alongside CSC’s Ceremonial Unit and staff from across the country.

This moving service is a powerful way we remember and acknowledge those who have fallen in the line of duty. It also is a day to reflect on the important work police and peace officers proudly do in service to Canadians. Thank you for everything that you do, each and every day, to protect and promote public safety in Canada.
An online album will be shared in the coming weeks.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day
Tomorrow is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. I encourage you to take this time to reflect on the history of residential schools and the impact it continues to have on Indigenous peoples.
I also want to thank everyone who organized and participated in the events last week. It was a great opportunity to learn more about initiatives we offer to Indigenous offenders and the impact it can have on them.
Summary of CSC advancement: Federal Pathway Annual Progress Report 2024 to 2025
October 4 is the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls (MMIWG) and 2SLGBTQI+ people. On this day, we remember the lives of Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people who have been lost to violence.
Since 2021, CSC has made meaningful changes to answer 13 Call for Justice related to the field of Justice as described in the Federal Pathway to Address Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQI+ People. My thanks to all the CSC employees who have contributed to this important work.
