Commissioner's update for correctional employees: January 12, 2026

This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.

Our mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

Our core values: Respect, fairness, professionalism, inclusiveness, and accountability.

I wanted to provide you with a brief update on the Comprehensive Review. We have posted updated FAQs on the Hub and added the message from Treasury Board Secretariat about their alternation tool available to employees across the public service.

CSC will begin implementing our CER plans in the coming weeks.

Please know that if any employees are directly affected by changes, they will be informed first, before broader communications to all staff. We will communicate to all-staff as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

New “Work That Matters” video series

I hope you all have been enjoying our “The Service, For Canada” campaign and videos that have been promoting awareness to Canadians of the important and hard work our staff do across the country. We continue to get great feedback and have seen the extraordinary reach of this informative and inspirational campaign.

Following the success of this initiative, and to respond to some of your suggestions, our national communications team has produced a new series called "Work That Matters."

Our institutions run as little cities, requiring maintenance and care 24/7. It takes a wide variety of dedicated staff to keep things running smoothly, including in our National and Regional Headquarters. With this new series, we are excited to shine a light on the crucial work they do to maintain our operations, which in turn, helps keep Canadians safe.

Please stay tuned to our social media channels and I will share links to the upcoming videos in my messages. To begin, we'll meet a shift engineer, maintenance supervisor, maintenance specialist and a building service technician from our Bowden, Drumheller and Edmonton institutions.

As always, our national communications team is always interested in receiving feedback from you on these projects.

Support Services for Inmates

The Canadian Families and Corrections Network (CFCN) works in collaboration with CSC to provide inmates and families with services that foster family relationships. This includes providing sites with letter-writing kits, and offering services such as resiliency sessions, DadHero, and Let’s Read a Book.

The CFCN website also offers great resources to create and encourage parent-child bonding, such as their parent-child activity sheets. Visit the Canadian Families and Corrections Network website to learn more about what is available.

Thank you for the hard work you do each and every day.
