Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: April 14, 2025
On Wednesday, April 16, you will have the opportunity to exercise your right to vote by special ballot in the current federal election.
I encourage you to register to vote prior to election day – you still have a couple of days to do so. Each institution has a liaison officer who coordinates the registrations, organizes polling stations and returns all ballots to Elections Canada.
If you have any questions, please contact your institution’s liaison officer. You can also contact Elections Canada through their toll-free information line at 1-800-463-6868 for information about the election.
This month, we also mark a few religious celebrations.
- Early April, Muslims celebrated Eid al-Fitr, the end of the month of Ramadan, a spiritual journey of reflection.
- Those of the Jewish faith are observing Passover, the festival of freedom, from April 12 to April 20. Passover, also called Pesach, celebrates the Jewish peoples' escape from slavery in Egypt over 3,000 years ago.
- Friday marks Good Friday and the start of Easter weekend, for Christians.
I hope you are taking the opportunity to connect with your loved ones this month.
“Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, one another, this country, and this world.”
