Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: July 14, 2025
This week, I wanted to tell you about a couple of notable dates.
July 17 is World Day for International Justice, a day to promote international criminal justice and bring focus to victims’ rights.
On July 18, we observe Nelson Mandela International Day.
Nelson Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid activist and politician. He was the first president of South Africa. He spent 27 years in prison for opposing the apartheid. He is remembered as an icon of democracy and social justice. He advocated for the fair and humane treatment of all, including prisoners.
On this day, people around the world raise awareness about prisoners’ treatment and promote humane conditions of imprisonment.
There are dedicated CSC employees around you and behind the scenes who are passionate and believe in the work they do. I encourage you to reflect on these important days and on your own progress.
May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.
