Strategic Environmental and Economic Assessment
The Cabinet Directive on Strategic Environmental and Economic Assessment (the Cabinet Directive) focuses on the potential environmental and economic considerations of key government decisions, with a special focus on climate change and biodiversity. The Cabinet Directive also dictates the use of the Strategic Environmental and Economic Assessment (SEEA) process to ensure that policies, programs and regulations are consistent with the government's broad environmental and economic objectives and sustainable development goals, as laid out in the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy.
Public statements
The Cabinet Directive requires that departments and agencies prepare a public statement of environmental and economic effects for all proposals for which they have conducted a detailed SEEA analysis. Public statements may be in the form of a separate report or incorporated into any other planned announcement. They will provide assurance that environmental and economic effects have been considered during proposal development and decision-making, and that they will be mitigated or monitored as appropriate.
At present, the Correctional Service of Canada has not identified any significant environmental or economic impacts in the completed preliminary analyses. Therefore, no public statements have been developed at this time. Updates will be posted on this page following each calendar year.
