Hi, I'm Stephanie and I'm a Registered Nurse here at Millhaven Institution. I've been a Registered Nurse for about three years. I enjoy the human interactions that I get with people day-to-day, whether it be coworkers or the offenders that I'm interacting with. It's never a dull moment.
Being in corrections, it's definitely very rewarding. It can be challenging at times. It can be a difficult environment to work in. So, I think it's very important for all of us to work as a team. The nurses here are fantastic and I always feel comfortable either asking for help or going to help others. As well as the Correctional Officers, as they are always willing to help us if we're ever in need of a situation. Willing to help each other out just to make sure that the job gets done at the end of the day, and that we are providing the best care to the inmates here.
Every offender has a different background, different history, different reason why they're here. Some days are better than others, absolutely. But I feel like the majority of the time, we do make a difference.
Every day I come to work, we all have a collective agreement to give the best care that we can to the offenders in the institution, and every day we keep trying to be the best that we can.
