Death of an inmate at Mission Institution - Medium security unit

December 7, 2015 – Mission, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada

On December 6, 2015, Kirk Mclaren McIlvride, an inmate from the medium security unit at Mission Institution was found in need of medical attention in his cell.

Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The inmate could not be resuscitated.

At the time of his death, Mr. McIlvride, 66 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for Rape and Second Degree Murder since August 27, 1979.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
