Escape and recapture of inmate from Archambault Institution - Minimum security unit

December 21, 2015 – Laval, Québec – Correctional Service Canada

On December 18, 2015, during the 10:10 p.m. count in the minimum security unit at Archambault Institution, in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, staff members discovered that Julio Alberto Lopez Black was not accounted for.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Sûreté du Québec and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Just two hours later, at 12:18 a.m. on December 19, Julio Alberto Lopez Black was apprehended by the Service de police de Terrebonne. CSC is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
