Escape and Recapture of Two Inmates from Kwìkwèxwelhp Healing Village

January 15, 2016 – Harrison Mills, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada

During the 11:00 p.m. count on January 14, 2016, staff members at Kwìkwèxwelhp Healing Village, a minimum security federal institution, discovered that Blain Hocaluk and Zachary Armitage were not accounted for.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Agassiz detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and a warrant for their arrest was issued.

At approximately 3:00 a.m. on January 15, 2016, Blain Hocaluk, and Zachary Armitage were apprehended by police. CSC is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
