Death of an inmate at Collins Bay Institution – medium-security unit

February 19, 2016 – Kingston, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada

On February 19, 2016, Ryan James Henke, an inmate from the medium-security unit at Collins Bay Institution was found unresponsive in his cell.

Staff members immediately responded and emergency services were called. The inmate could not be resuscitated.

At the time of his death, Mr. Henke, 29 years-old, had been serving a sentence of 3 years and 6 months, since February 10, 2014, for robbery.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
