Death of an inmate at Archambault Institution - Medium security unit

March 21, 2016 – Laval, Quebec – Correctional Service Canada

On March 20, 2016, Gilles Meloche, an inmate at Archambault Institution, in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, died at the Cité de la Santé hospital in Laval.

At the time of his death, Mr. Meloche, 60 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for Second Degree Murder, Attempted Murder and several other counts including Armed Robbery and Conspiracy since September 13, 1980.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
