Assault of staff members at Millhaven Institution

News Release

April 8, 2016 — Bath, Ontario — Correctional Service Canada

On April 7, 2016, at about 8:25 a.m., four staff members were assaulted at Millhaven Institution, a maximum-security federal institution. The injured staff members were evaluated and treated at an outside hospital.

The assailant has been identified and the appropriate actions have been taken.

The OPP Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad and the institution are presently investigating the incident.

The Warden ordered a lockdown of the entire institution in order to assess the situation and circumstances. Normal operations resumed in the afternoon once the Warden determined it was considered safe to do so.

The safety and security of institutions, their staff and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
