Death of an inmate at Mountain Institution

April 21, 2016 – Agassiz, British Colombia – Correctional Service Canada

On April 19, 2016, Kenneth Blair Schmutz, an inmate at Mountain Institution died at a local hospital in Surrey.

At the time of his death, Mr. Schmutz, 51 years old, had been serving a sentence of 7 years, 6 months and 20 days, since April 15, 2013 for Sexual Interference and other offences.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
