Death of an inmate at Saskatchewan Penitentiary – Medium security unit

May 28, 2016 – Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – Correctional Service Canada
On May 27, 2016, Richard Daniel Wolfe, an inmate from the medium security unit at Saskatchewan Penitentiary was found in need of medical attention in the institution’s exercise yard.
The offender was taken to the Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:40 p.m.
At the time of his death, Mr, Richard Daniel Wolfe, aged 40 years old, had been serving a sentence of 26 years, 6 months and 1 day, since May 31, 1996 for Assault with a Weapon, Sexual Assault, Disguise with Intent, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Use of Firearm in Commission of an Offence, Robbery, Armed Robbery and Attempted Murder.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
