Death of an inmate at Joyceville Institution – Minimum security unit

September 13, 2016 – Kingston, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada

On September 12, 2016, Douglas Bernard Miller, an inmate at Joyceville Institution, died at a local hospital in Kingston.

At the time of his death, Mr. Miller, 73 years-old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence since May 29, 1979, for Attempted Murder, Rape, Assault Causing Bodily Harm and theft related offences.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
