Seizure of unauthorized items, and lockdown and search at Dorchester Penitentiary - Medium security unit

September 21, 2016 – Dorchester, New Brunswick – Correctional Service Canada
On September 17, 2016, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, a package containing unauthorized items was seized at Dorchester Penitentiary, a multi-level security federal institution.
The unauthorized items seized included Nicotine patches. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $4,200.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent unauthorized items from entering its institutions to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
Also, on September 19, 2016, a lockdown was put in place in the medium security unit at Dorchester Penitentiary, to enable staff members to conduct an exceptional search.
Visits have been suspended until the search is completed.
CSC is committed to preventing the entry of unauthorized items into its institutions. We also work in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband and/or unauthorized items into correctional institutions.
