Death of an inmate at Saskatchewan Penitentiary

May 25, 2017 – Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – Correctional Service Canada
On May 24, 2017, Curtis Robert Cozart, an inmate from Saskatchewan Penitentiary died while in our custody.
Emergency services were called. The offender was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:00 p.m.
At the time of his death, Mr. Cozart, 30 years old, had been serving a sentence of 2 years and 4 months for Assault With a Weapon, Assault – Use of Force, Theft Under $5,000, Obstruct Public/Peace Officer and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order since October 6, 2016.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
