Death of an inmate at Pê Sâkâstêw Centre

On August 12, 2017, Jessi Phillip Loyie, an inmate from Pê Sâkâstêw Centre died while in our custody.
At the time of his death, Mr. Loyie, 33 years old, had been serving a sentence of 5 years and 4 months for possession of schedule I/II substances for purposes of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order, failure to comply with conditions under a recognizance order since May 30, 2014
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
