Death of an inmate at Matsqui Institution

On October 29, 2017, Daniel Penney, an inmate from Matsqui Institution died while in our custody of apparent natural causes. Emergency services were called. The inmate could not be resuscitated.  

At the time of his death, Mr. Penney, 54 years old, had been serving a sentence of 12 years, 7 months and 13 days for manslaughter since June 15, 2017.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
