Springhill Institution Celebrates 50 Years
News Release
SPRINGHILL, Friday, October 6, 2017 – Yesterday, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) invited members of the media to tour Springhill Institution, and learn more about the medium-security federal institution in Springhill, N.S.
After a demonstration by a drug detection dog, guests toured areas of the institution including a living unit, an Indigenous space and a CORCAN shop. The goal was to provide members of the media with a first-hand look at Springhill’s operations as we celebrate its 50th anniversary in the local community.
CSC would like to thank all who attended, and the staff who made yesterday’s event a success.

Quotes
“Dedication, perseverance and integrity are just a few of the qualities that describe the people who have given and continue to give to Springhill Institution. Springhill significantly contributes every single day to the rehabilitation of offenders and their safe transition to the community. It is our staff, past and present, who have made us successful. I am proud to be a long-time employee of CSC and to continue the family tradition started by my father, who was one of Springhill’s first correctional officers and served his community for over 35 years. We are ready for what the future will bring.”
