Death of an inmate at La Macaza Institution

On January 23, 2018, Gerald Patoine, an inmate of La Macaza Institution, died while in our custody.

At the time of his death, Mr. Gerald Patoine, 44 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for second degree murder, manslaughter and failing to comply since March 5, 2007.

The inmate's relatives have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and contact the police and the coroner as required.
