Death of an inmate at Stony Mountain Institution

News Release

On January 7, 2018, Max Maurice Richard, an inmate from Stony Mountain Institution, died while in our custody.

Emergency services were called. The offender was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:48 p.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. Richard, 42 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for Second Degree Murder since January 27, 2017.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and contact the police and the coroner as required.
