Death of an inmate at Pacific Institution

February 12, 2018 – Abbotsford, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada

On February 9, 2018, Elmer Grant, an inmate from Pacific Institution died while in our custody of apparent natural causes following an illness.

At the time of his death, Mr. Grant, 68 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for sexual assault with a weapon since June 13, 1994.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service of Canada will review the the circumstances and contact the police and the coroner if required.
