Death of an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary – Minimum-security unit

February 15, 2018 – Dorchester, New Brunswick – Correctional Service Canada

On February 14, 2018, Charles Lignos, an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary, died while in our custody of apparent natural causes following an illness.

At the time of his death, Mr. Lignos, 48 years old, had been serving a sentence of three years, two months and one day for possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Possession of a Weapon Contrary to a Prohibition Order and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose since February 29, 2016.

The inmate’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances and contact the police and the coroner if required.
