Death of an inmate from Drumheller Institution

On February 20, 2018, Brandon Lee Mirva, an inmate from Drumheller Institution, died while in our custody.

At the time of his death, Mr. Mirva, 25 years old, had been serving a sentence of 2 years since October 26, 2017 for Possession of a Schedule I/II Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking, Trafficking in a Schedule I/II Substance, Failure to Comply with a Condition of an Undertaking or Recognizance and Failure to Attend Court.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances and contact the police and the coroner if required.
