Escape from Stony Mountain Institution – Minimum security unit

February 25, 2018 – Stony Mountain, Manitoba – Correctional Service Canada

On February 24, 2018 during the 9:30 p.m. count in the minimum security unit at Stony Mountain Institution, staff members discovered that William Benjamin Hunter-Garrioch and Dale Jacob Gilchrist were not accounted for.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Stonewall detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and a warrant for their arrest has been issued.

William Benjamin Hunter-Garrioch is 21 years old, measures 170 cm (5’7”) in height and weighs 57 kg (126 lbs). He has a medium complexion, brown eyes and brown hair.  He has a scar on his left wrist. He is currently serving a sentence of 9 years, 3 months, 26 days for Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of a Schedule II Substance and Failure to Comply with Condition of an Undertaking/Recognizance.

Dale Jacob Gilchrist is 34 years old, measures 188 cm (6’2”) in height and weighs 91 kgs (201 lbs). He has a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.  He has tattoos on his neck, abdomen, chest, arms, hands and right leg.  He is currently serving a sentence of 6 years for Armed Robbery and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.  He has also served sentences for Break Enter and Commit Theft, Assault, Possession of A Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of William Benjamin Hunter-Garrioch or Dale Jacob Gilchrist is asked to contact police.

CSC will investigate the circumstances of this incident and is working with the police to locate the offenders as quickly as possible.

CSC has given the police all of the information available to help arrest the inmates.
