Death of an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary – Medium-security unit

On June 29, 2018, Gary Macneil, an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary, died while in our custody of apparent natural causes following an illness.  

At the time of his death, Mr. Macneil, 72 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence since 1998 for sexual offences. 

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances and contact the police and the coroner if required.
