Death of an inmate from Joyceville Institution - Minimum Unit

News release

June 29, 2018 – Kingston, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada

On June 29, 2018, Ernest McConnell, an inmate from Joyceville Institution -  Minimum Unit died while in our custody of apparent natural causes following an illness.

At the time of his death, Mr. McConnell, 59 years old, had been serving a sentence of 8 years for sexual interference and incest since March 4, 2016.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances and contact the police and the coroner if required.
