Escape and recapture of inmate from Edmonton Institution for Women

December 22, 2018 – Edmonton, Alberta – Correctional Service Canada
On December 21, 2018, at about 8:45 p.m., Edmonton Institution for Women, a multi-level security federal institution, was notified that Charlene Couterielle escaped during an escorted temporary absence in Edmonton, Alberta.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Edmonton Police Service and a warrant for her arrest was issued.
At approximately 10:15 p.m. on December 21, 2018, Charlene Couterielle was apprehended by police. CSC is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
