Death of an inmate at Pacific Institution

March 5, 2019 – Abbotsford, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada

On March 1^st, 2019, Richard Vincent Travis, an inmate from Pacific Institution died while in our custody of apparent natural causes following an illness.

At the time of his death, Mr. Travis, 53 years old, had been serving a sentence of 5 years and 6 months, which began on December 7, 2015.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances and contact the police and the coroner if required.
