Correctional Service Canada recognizes exceptional volunteer from Vaughn, Ontario

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is pleased to announce that Alicia Mora is the winner of the 2018 Taylor Award.
The Taylor Award is awarded annually during National Volunteer Week to a CSC volunteer who demonstrates dedication and caring in helping offenders rebuild their lives.
Ms. Mora has been an outstanding community volunteer in the Greater Ontario-Nunavut District for the past three years, while attending Queen’s University. She is a founding member and President of the Queen’s Correctional Services Volunteers (QCSV) and manages a group of 24 QCSV. Notably, Ms. Mora is also a member of Queen’s Alma Mater Society, and actively promotes CSC’s Mission at public events.
Alicia has had an enormous impact on enhancing the lives of offenders, staff and volunteers alike. She can be found coaching new volunteer recruits, establishing bi-weekly art classes, resume writing workshops, supporting offenders with literacy issues, or accompanying offenders to medical appointments or grocery shopping. She has inspired creative initiatives whereby offenders are taking part and giving back to the community.
Alicia’s exemplary commitment and dedication to helping offenders, both in our institutions and in the community, has a positive impact on the reintegration of offenders and public safety.

This year marks the 18th annual presentation of the Taylor Award. The Taylor Award was established in November 2001 - the International Year of Volunteers.

The award is named after Dr. Charles Taylor and his wife, Charlotte, of Wolfville, Nova Scotia for their lifetime dedication to faith-based counseling with offenders in correctional facilities and in the community, and for Dr. Taylor's contribution to the development of prison ministry education.
