Death of an inmate from Joyceville Institution

April 15, 2019 – Kingston, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada

On April 14, 2019, James Renaud, an inmate from Joyceville Institution died while in our custody at Millhaven Institution Regional Hospital of apparent natural causes.

At the time of his death, Mr. Renaud, 68 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for escape lawful custody and second degree murder since July 17, 1987.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
