Death of an inmate from Pacific Institution

April 8, 2020– Abbotsford, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada

On April 7, 2020, Matthew Allan Buxton, an inmate from Pacific Institution died while in our custody.

At the time of his death, Mr. Buxton, 46 years old, had been serving a sentence of 3 years and 5 months for Assault – Use of Force, Sexual Assault, and Utter Threats to Cause Death/Harm since November 8, 2018.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
