Death of an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary

May 13, 2020 – Dorchester, New Brunswick – Correctional Service Canada
On May 10, 2020, Edward Pittman, an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary died while in our custody of apparent natural causes following an illness.
At the time of his death, Mr. Pittman, 54 years old, had been serving a life sentence for Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Second Degree Murder and Uttering Threats to cause death/harm since November 20, 1992.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
