Seizure of contraband and unauthorized items at Collins Bay Institution

August 5, 2020 – Kingston, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada

During the month of July 2020, correctional officers and security intelligence officers at Collins Bay Institution seized multiple packages containing contraband and unauthorized items, both inside and outside the institutional perimeter, from suspected throw overs. The total estimated institutional value of the seizure is $351,010. Seized contraband and unauthorized items included:

Marijuana – 1188.8g                                                     Fentanyl – 29.1g                                  

Heroin / Fentanyl mixture – 6.2g                               Shatter – 178,6g           

Crystal Meth – 2.7g                                                       MDMA – 9.5g                          

PCP – 54.5g                                                                    Tobacco – 2840g                                 

Cigarettes – 212g                                                        Cigars – 23                                          

Rolling papers – 7420                                                 Banana leaves for rolling – 93.6g

Liquid – believed to be alcohol:  4500ml                 Cell phones – 22  

SIM cards – 28                                                              Charging Cords – 21  

Charging blocks – 19                                                  USB Cord – 4  

Ear buds – 3                                                                  Roll of black tape and a screwdriver

In addition, on July 26, 2020 correctional officers and security intelligence officers intercepted two individuals attempting to throw over contraband and unauthorized items. The individuals were arrested by Kingston Police and may face criminal charges.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.

CSC has set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about activities relating to security at CSC institutions. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members working at CSC institutions.

The toll-free number, 1‑866‑780‑3784, helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain anonymous.
