Escape and recapture of inmate from Pacific Institution 

On December 3, 2020, at about 2:55 p.m., Pacific Institution, a multi-level security federal institution, was notified that Stephane Bissonnette escaped during an escorted medical temporary absence in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Correctional Officers immediately pursued and, with the assistance of the Abbotsford Police Department, apprehended the inmate who was taken into police custody. During the pursuit, a correctional officer discharged their firearm. No injuries resulted from the firearm discharge.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
