Death of an inmate from Matsqui Institution

May 14, 2021– Abbotsford, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada

On May 13, 2021, Leonard Richard Collins, an inmate from Matsqui Institution died while in our custody.

At the time of his death, Mr. Collins had been serving a sentence of 8 years and 3 months for robbery-related offences since September 11, 2014.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
