Death of an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary

August 4, 2021 – Dorchester, New Brunswick – Correctional Service Canada
On August 3, 2021, Garrett Young, an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary, died while in our custody of apparent natural causes.
At the time of his death, Mr. Young had been serving a life sentence since July 15, 1994, for sexual assault causing bodily harm, kidnap – unlawfully confine, assault, assault with a weapon, robbery with violence, and forcible confinement.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
