Death of an inmate from Pacific Institution

September 28, 2021 – Abbotsford, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada

On September 25, 2021, Dean Barker, an inmate from Pacific Institution died while in our custody of apparent natural causes.

At the time of his death, Mr. Barker had been serving a sentence of 5 years, 6 months and 18 days for traffic in schedule I/II substances, import/export schedule I substances, and possess property obtained by crime, since March 19, 2020.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
