Death of an inmate from Matsqui Institution

October 4, 2022– Abbotsford, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada

On October 2, 2022, Jagjit Singh Saran, an inmate from Matsqui Institution, died while in our custody.

At the time of death, the inmate had been serving a life sentence since February 17, 2005, for second degree murder and other offences.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
