Death of an inmate from Beaver Creek Institution

On December 18, 2022, Leslie Ma, an inmate from Beaver Creek Institution, died while in our custody following a serious assault.

At the time of death, the inmate had been serving a sentence of nine years, 11 months and 13 days for possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking, which commenced on March 12, 2018.   

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified. 

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
