Death of an inmate from Millhaven Institution

On January 8, 2023, Victor James, an inmate from Millhaven Institution, died while in our custody following a serious assault.

At the time of death, the inmate had been serving a sentence of seven years and 10 months for aggravated assault, break and enter with intent, forcible confinement, and other offences, which commenced on May 2, 2019.   

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified. 

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
