Death of an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary
News release
March 17, 2023 – Dorchester, New Brunswick – Correctional Service Canada
On March 16, 2023, Melvin Miller, an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary, died while in our custody.
At the time of death, the inmate had been serving an indeterminate sentence, which commenced on June 12, 1972, for first-degree murder, attempted murdered, robbery and assault of a peace officer.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
